On Hope

A reflection on the first Mass reading for December 14, 2007, (Is 48:17-19) by Mother Maria-Michael Newe, OSB.

The Holy Father has just released his encyclical on hope. Today's first reading from Isaiah strikes me as being full of hope. It reads: "I will teach you what is for your good."(Is 48:17) It's so good to hear "I'll teach you"-- in other words, we don't need to know it all. We spend our whole lives in the position of the learner. We can learn from the wisdom of children. They allow life to surprise them. If we don't box God in, we are open to His surprises.

I wish a surprise for you today that will make you smile and say: "You got me!"
