A reflection on the Gospel for July 23, 2008 (Mt 13:1-9) by Mother Maria-Michael Newe, OSB.
In today's Gospel, the word that keeps ringing in me is "the whole crowd stood along the shore" (Mt 13:2)to listen to Jesus. The whole crowd heard the same word and yet some seed fell on good ground, some on rocky ground and the birds ate it up.
And so it is with us. We each walk away with the same word. Will it bear fruit? Do we desire to hear it? Do we wish to change and grow better? What is it that makes some bear fruit? I believe that hearing with the ears of the heart is what makes all the difference in the world.
