A reflection on the Liturgy for Friday, February 19, 2010 by Mother Maria-Michael Newe, OSB.
We prayed in the Benedictus Antiphon today: “When you meet those who are in need of clothing, do not turn away from them, for they are your brothers and sisters.” Clothe the naked when you see them. Do not turn your back on your own. If we can take those virtues when we see somebody, if we think they aren’t wearing the virtues we would like them to be wearing, clothe their nakedness with your heart. Clothe them with heartfelt charity. Clothe them with kindness. And then when you have done that “then you shall call and the Lord will answer, you shall cry for help and He will say: Here I am.” (Is 58:9a) And that’s exactly right, He will say, “Here I am, directly before you, in the one you have clothed.” Remember that on a Friday, Christ was stripped.
